Free SHS is an investment policy – Education Ministry PRO Kwasi Kwarteng , the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Education Ministry , has stressed that the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy should be seen as an investment — not merely an expenditure. He explained that maintaining and improving the quality of the policy requires significant resources, much like any other long-term national investment. Yet, many citizens tend to focus only on its financial cost rather than its broader social and economic benefits. Education as a Strategic Investment According to Kwarteng, the Ministry’s focus is on three key pillars — access, quality, and relevance . These, he said, are constantly being reviewed to ensure they contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development. Updated Schedule for the 2024 WASSCE According to WAEC, the 2024 WASSCE will now run from August 5 to September 27 , shifting from the previously announced July 1 to August 31, 2024 . This change was communicated to all regional directors through an official circular. Heads of Senior  WAEC hasn’t provided an official reason for the adjustment, but the decision is believed to give candidates more time to revise and prepare. Despite the date change, examination procedures and standards remain the same across all WAEC member countries. 2024 BECE Date Unchanged The 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) remains scheduled for the second week of July — from July 8 to July 12, 2024 .
